What do I buy my 5 year old daughter for her Birthday a play kitchen set or a trampoline?
I'm afraid she will out grow the $200 kitchen set soon and the trampoline is a little over $400 and relatives are complaining thats too much for a bday gift.
My daughter is really tall and is envoled in dance and soccer and the kitchen set is $200 and the trampoline we want is Square and enclosed and is $400 and relatives complain that is too much for bday gift.
Also she is doing acrobats in dance and I thought the trampoline might benefit her. The kitchen set I chose is that expensive because I esearched to find the tallest one I could because she is already 4foot tall and I tdidn't want her playing the kitchen set on her knees. Also all relative r family give $50 towards a gift of our choice. (yes she has bike and skates and safety gear very athletic girl new tap shoes /ballet/soccer shoes)

I know this is not a popular opinion, but those stupid trampolines are just plain dangerous, even with the nets. 5+ years working in the medical field, dealing with ER patients has taught me this, and my kids aren’t allowed on them.
Does she have a bike? Get her a bike. $200 is way too much for a kitchen set. You could buy yourself a new dishwasher for that much. Almost every house in my neighborhood has a big ugly trampoline and I NEVER see any kids playing on them, so I advise against it. You’ll just end up having to throw it away.
She’ll be able to use the trampoline all throughout her childhood and teenage years. Also, a trampoline will reduce television and computer time. If she is only five though I suggest an adult is always on it with her or watching her.

Either is fine! The kitchen will last a few years and she can play with that all year round. My husbands cousin has a huge trampoline and the kids love it!! They keep bugging me for one. I will eventually get them one but maybe next year. So really either is good and that is not too much money if you have it!!
There is that safety issue with the trampoline of course.
Kitchen set. Trampolines can be dangerous.
i would go with the trampoline because kids seem to have more fun with them. The kitchen should be more of a christmas gift. my kids have both and love the trampoline more.
if it’s between those two, I’d get the kitchen. But I wouldn’t go for the $200 model. I would go a little lower price. Trampolines can be very dangerous. My Mom was a pedi nurse and she can’t count how many kids came in with tramp related injuries.
Go with something that she will use, but look at it practically as well. Don’t just get it because it’s the most expensive, get it because it’s the best value and she would get the most out of it.
i think the trampoline is way more practical, i mean im 16 and i would still use it, so it would deff be worth the extra money, however, i would recommend getting a net or something around it, for saftey purposes, plus u can use it too!
As much as I am sure she would enjoy the trampoline it is not a very good idea. Not just for the obvious safety reasons but many homeowners policies will charge you an additional premium or will not write your homeowners policy if you have a trampoline. Before purchasing it is something you may want to consider. If you are afraid that she will grow out of the kitchen set you might want to consider something else. A bike, a portable DVD player, a MP3 player. you would be suprised what she might.
definitely the trampoline. two reasons
1. children have a problem with not enough exercise. buying a trampoline will accomplish two things (1) it will instill, hopefully, the habit of exercise and (2) it will be something which you can do with her that will be both fun and exercise for you as well.
2. it will not be outgrown-with proper training it can become a long term source of entertainment and exercise (plus great training for athletics and cheerleading.
Kitchen set. It’s less expensive and there’s less of a chance of injury!!!
the exercise will do her good and i know there is the danger factor but life is dangerous and we take a risk just crossing roads etc so i just wish i had enough money to get my kids one!!
Personally, I am against trampolines. They do have a higher potential of being more dangerous. I had a kitchen set for my daughter when she was 5. (now 7) she had no interest in it. I would think a bike, roller skates, scooter or a pogo stick (I just got my daughter one that has a ball on the bottom, the pole is stretchable. She loves it.
no trampoline……….
i bought one for mine. and he jumped right off the side and hit a paved side walk and busted he nose wide open and had to get stitches. and now has a scar…..
they are fun but very dangerous.
even with the net,
i would get the play kitchen….
Who is going to be supervising her when she is on the trampoline?
Like I asked above, WHO is going to be supervising her when she is ON the trampoline. Even the ENCLOSED ones require SUPERVISION. It doesn’t matter what your family thinks. What matters is are YOU going to be supervising your child on the trampoline. If not then you need to stick with the kitchen set, there is less of a chance of her getting severely hurt with that.
Don’t get the trampoline. Darn things are too dangerous.
On the other hand, I’m not convinced you need to spend $200 for a kitchen set. Buy pieces that are flexible and usable for years (play food, dinnerware, pots, pans, etc.) and don’t go overboard with things like the “all in one” sets (stove, fridge, etc).
One of the best gifts I gave my daughter was a picnic set with all of the above. She played with that stuff until she was 10 or 11!
My daughter is almost 6 and she never plays with her Dora kitchen I bought for her when she was 4. But I don’t recommend the trampoline either, because it is too dangerous even with a net.
Please, do not by a trampoline. Dont get fooled into “well it has a safety net” Even if they dont fall off of it, they can land wrong on it. My son did a few months ago and broke his elbow. I also just read a story about a boy who ended up snapping his neck from landing wrong. I got rid of mine, much to my kids crying about it.
i agree with the relatives 400$ is a lot to spend on a bday present but think like this would you rather have a toy that will last forever or a toy your child will out grow and than the toy becomes useless and is just a space taker
Please not the trampoline, I’ve seen too many accidents and near-misses on those big green giants not to mention the space they take up and the danger they pose in adverse
weather conditions.
Not gone on the Kitchen set either at that price.
Does she have a bicycle with helmet, knee pads etc….?
That would get her outside and exercising without much effort.
kitchen set or an easybake oven for ages 5-12 only. i will b 13 in 9 days so wish me an awesome day too on aug.3
Get her what you think she would enjoy more, and as far as the amount you decide to spend on your childs birthday, it should be just that what YOU decide. Just try to understand that if you spend extravagantly on her now she will only expect it to continue as she grows older. But the choice should still be yours not your relatives.
I would go with the trampoline. You will get your money’s worth out of it. If you buy the kitchen set, she will probably only use it for a year or two, if that.
Hi I’m 9. my 5 year old sister loves the kitchen.she can play with whether its sunny or rainy. She had it forever and still loves it!! So you should get the kitchen.
Well, you hardly ever hear of broken bone from a play kitchen. But, yeah, she’ll likely outgrow it in a couple years. Hard call. Maybe something completely different?
Whatever you decide, it’s up to you and your husband how much you spend on her. If $400 is in your budget for a gift for her, then go for it. Oh, BTW, my birthday is coming up… lol.
Trampolines are dangerous. No matter how athletic she is, one wrong bounce or to land one cm in the wrong direction can snap her neck. I have a 5 year old, and would never put him on a trampoline. He is still not aware enough of the power of his body and would hurt himself.
As for the play set, I agree, I think $400 is too much. If you know she will outgrow the play set, why get it? Take her to a park for a day or horseback riding. She will get more kicks out of spending a “girls day’ with you then a toy.
Don’t buy the Kitchen set…you are right..she will outgrow too soon…those are more appropriate to buy 2 year olds.
A trampoline is a great idea and will last for years. Kids love them. My kids have had one for years and plenty of friends have used them..never an accident. With anything physical, anyone could get hurt. I see kids more hurt on bikes but every kid has one.
